Extra Mile
One Friday
afternoon, while waiting for my brother to get off work, I decided to have a
late lunch at the Fast-food restaurant opposite his office. After waiting for an hour (I can’t complain,
they allowed me to drive his car for weeks), I was on my way to the ladies when
I noticed a young couple exercising with their lips, they were passionately
engaged that they did not notice passersby and onlookers like me.
30minutes
later, the love birds left the restaurant, the girl got into a cab for which
the guy brought out his wallet and paid for. Barely 5 minutes later, he waved
down a bike and zoomed away. I left the restaurant shortly after this, on
getting to the bus-stop at the end of the long street; I saw him trekking then
he got into a public bus known as Danfo.
This event brought back memories, memories of my secondary school days
when a boy will buy 1 Pie and 1 Yogurt for a girl then buy himself 1 Puff-Puff
1 Zobo.
Can you
remember any story of where you had to give it all to get someone a gift or
take them out (please don’t include family sacrifice)? For me, I battled to
remember any, maybe because I try as much as possible not to put people under
pressure to impress me or because I have rolled with people who I know will
only buy or give what they can truly afford.
Personally, I had to save it all to get someone a black pair of jeans
when I was a corper (youth service)
Till next
time, go an extra mile for that somebody.

This is deep #not everyone can go that extra inch but we should always try as much as we can. For me I can't even remember who I have gone that extra mile for! I will make it a conscious effort IA.
ReplyDeleteNice Post! The biggest sacrifice that comes to mind was during my service year when I had just dished out some money to pay for a friend's asoebi and I also decided to get 'le boo' a phone for his birthday.
ReplyDeleteLol.. I can only imagine how much that Aso ebi is.. I salute you oo
DeleteGuess we have a #teamextramileduringservice
What usually hinders us from going the extra mile is the fear of it not being appreciated or being taken advantage off. It can be liberating giving off yourself without contemplating the possible reactions. Thanks for reminding me to just give. L
ReplyDeleteIs that going the extra mile or pretending to be what you are not? Was he trying to impress her at his own detriment? Is she seeing him for what he is not? *thoughts*
ReplyDeleteThat is another way of looking at it however the post was aimed at pointing out people who sacrifice for others. Sometimes it is not as if the person cannot afford it, it is just that the person cannot afford it for two people - so he decides to pick you..
DeleteI remember a couple of years ago, when i waited to buy a phone and a friend told me to wait, he will buy it for me, in the end he didnt buy it - it took time to realise he wanted to buy a two new phones - one for me, and one for him however he could only afford one and wasn't keen about choosing whose should come first...
Anonymous your point is valid but I think the guy was just trying to treat his bae like the queen he felt she was.....it's Mothers Day today....honour the queens and ladies in your life..LJ
DeleteI can recall many times I have gone the extra mile, it comes naturally for me, the key thing however is not to lose yourself in valuing others....Peace
ReplyDeleteYes.. LJ is the queen of extra mile, last Saturday i parked behind her and she needed to run an errand quickly, so she drove my car, when i was going home - i discovered my previously empty tank car was filled up- i mean full tank...
DeleteThat's such a beautiful story of going the extra mile :-) LNN
